A letter dated 8 May 1775 mentions the new textile factory in Monterado, where seven types of fabric were produced: various towels, panigelli, striped fabrics, etc. Most of the thread used for weaving was prepared in Senigallia at the spinning school located along the Misa river canal or purchased during the Senigallia fair from merchants from Eastern European and Middle Eastern countries. In 1780, the looms of the Monterado factory produced linen, hemp and cotton fabrics, which were used to make precious clothes for children and rich dowries for young brides-to-be. Even Pope Pius VI, during a visit to Senigallia, was presented with these fabrics, and he praised their manufacture. As evidence of this ancient and prestigious manufacture, some samples presented to the Pope are preserved in the historical archives of the Germanic College in Rome.
